The Highland High School Band Boosters will host the semi-annual arts and craft fair Saturday and Nov. 9.
Hosting a fundraiser of this magnitude takes a lot of work and many volunteers said co-chairman Jerry McMahon.
"We have been fortunate over the years to get a great number of our band families to participate, both students and parents. A lot of effort goes into something like this but in the long run it's much better than having to sell candles and wrapping paper throughout the year."
The hours for the show are 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday and 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Sunday. Highland Middle School is on the corner of 41st and 5th streets. Admission and parking are free.
A concession stand will offer brats and kraut, hot dogs, marching tacos, along with various soft drinks, coffee and water.
There will be a silent auction on Saturday and numerous area businesses and crafters will be donating items.
The group hosts two craft fairs a year. They provide additional funds for band programs in elementary through high school, as well as the color guard and winter guard programs. The money helps pay for such items as cleaning, altering and repairs to the marching uniforms, marching show expenses and drill design fees.
Sue Timm, Band Boosters president, encourages everyone to get involved. "The purpose of the Band Boosters is to enrich the band program through financial and moral support, and to encourage and invite the involvement and support of parents, students as well as the community," she said.
Brian Blocker, band director, said the marching band earned gold ratings at all three of our festivals this year.
