Teen group hosts drive to register more voters
The Crisis Center's youth development group, Youth As Resources, is hosting a voter registration drive from 4 to 7 p.m. Thursday in the main lobby of the Healthy East Chicago Center, 100 W. Chicago Ave.
Youth volunteers, some of whom are not old enough to register themselves, will offer voter registration forms, stamped envelopes, poll locations and other information in an effort to register as many new voters as possible, young and old.
Those already registered but who have moved also may pick up a registration form to use for a change of address.

Citizens group hosting a forum for candidates
Citizens United to Revive East Chicago hosts a candidate forum from 6 to 8 p.m. April 4 at Tabernacle Missionary Baptist Church's Fellowship Hall, 3715 Butternut St. in East Chicago.
Candidates in the May 6 primary election have been invited to introduce themselves, talk about their qualification and present their platforms. Those invited include candidates for governor, U.S. representative District 1, state senator District 2, state representative District 2, state representative District 12 and Lake County commission District 3.

Presentation to illustrate ancient arts of Europe
The Society for Creative Anachronism will host a presentation from noon to 2 p.m. April 19 at the Hammond Public Library, 564 State St.
The Society for Creative Anachronism Inc. is dedicated to researching and re-creating the arts and skills of pre-17th century Europe. A local chapter will demonstrate weaving, spinning, calligraphy, embroidery and a display of metal casing equipment.
In conjunction with that show, a spinning wheel and pieces of armor will be on display at the main library during April.

Official to give updates on Medicare changes
A representative from the State Health Insurance Assistance Program will be in Highland at 10 a.m. Thursday to provide information on changes to the Medicare plan.
The program is at First Financial Bank, 2611 Highway Ave., Highland.

Polka association hosts celebration with music
The American Polka Association presents a polka celebration Saturday at American Legion Post 369, 1401 W. Chicago Ave.
Musical entertainment is provided by Stas Bulanda's Old School Review. Admission is $10 per person. Children 16 and younger with a paid adult will be admitted free. Doors open at 6 p.m., with music from 7 to 11 p.m. Food and refreshments will be sold.

Church to provide free dinner for community
Hammond Christian Reformed Church sponsors a free community dinner from 6 to 7 p.m. the last Thursday of each month starting this Thursday at 167th Street and Baring Avenue. The public is invited.
