More bins to be requested for residents
CROWN POINT | The city hopes to get a little more green with the addition of more recycling bins provided to city residents.
Recycling co-coordinators Diana Bosse and Jennifer Bzdil will ask the Board of Works today to approve the purchase of 576 65-gallon recycling bins for the city's 21st Century recycling program.
Bosse and Bzdil will ask for approval to spend $30,833 to pay North Carolina-based Schaefer Systems International for the bins, that run about $54 each. The city is seeking a $50,000 grant to pay for the 65-gallon containers as well as a smaller size container for smaller families.
The bins are the second phase of the 21st Century voluntary waste reduction program, which allows about 2,600 residents to receive a recycling bin, according to the city's Web site.
Like previous bins bought by the city, the new bins will require some assembly for wheels, axles and lower bars. Bins already in the community were assembled by the Crown Point high school athletes for community service hours.
Crown Point residents living within city limits are eligible to apply to the program; applications are available on the city's Web Site at http://www.crownpoint.in.gov.
