Power for the majority of the 9,200 NIPSCO customers remaining without it Friday morning should be restored by evening, NIPSCO officials said.
The rest should be up by day's end Saturday.
At the height of Monday night's storms and the tornado that touched down in Griffith, which caused the outages, some 63,000 NIPSCO customers were without power.
A recorded media hotline said repair crews "continue to make good progress in power restoration efforts" at of 4 a.m. Friday. Their efforts are focused on Gary, Munster, Merrillville, Griffith, Hammond and Highland, the recording said.
