H-F Park District announces winter break programs

Homewood-Flossmoor Park District has a cool way for kids to spend their winter break.

Camp Frosty for participants in grades kindergarten to sixth features winter-themed activities, games and crafts and weekly field trips to destinations including Navy Pier IMAX, H-F Ice Arena and Brunswick Zone. Two sessions are available. Session one meets Dec. 22 through Dec. 26 and session two meets Dec. 29 through Jan. 2. Both sessions run from 8:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. at the H-F Park District Auditorium, 2010 Chestnut, Homewood. Fees are $100 per week or $38 per day. Advance registration is recommended as space is limited. Camp will not be held Dec. 24, 25, 31 or Jan. 1. A before-camp option is available for $16 per session or $6 per day beginning at 7 a.m.

Explore the outdoors this winter at Eco-Rangers. Participants in grades kindergarten to five will learn what happens to trees and plants during the winter months and what the animals do to survive when the obvious food and shelter options aren't available. Cold weather outdoor skills and their applications will also be taught. Eco-Rangers meets from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Dec. 22 through Dec. 24 at Irons Oaks Environmental Learning Center, 20000 Western Ave., Olympia Fields. Fee is $34 for residents and $51 for nonresidents. Stay warm, get exercise and have fun with friends at the H-F Ice Arena. Holiday Open Skate for all ages will be held on Dec. 22, 23, 27 to 30 and Jan. 3 and 4 from 1 to 2:30 p.m. and on Dec. 26 and Jan. 2. from 12:30 to 2:30 p.m., 3:30 to 5 p.m. and 8 to 9:30 p.m. Fee is $5 per session for admission with skate rental. The H-F Ice Arena is at 777 Kedzie Ave., Flossmoor.

Holiday Hoops lets participants play pick-up basketball games over the holidays. Holiday Hoops is held from 2 to 4 p.m. Dec. 29 and 30 at the H-F Sports Complex, 18211 Aberdeen St., Homewood.

Fee per day is $4 for residents and $6 for nonresidents. Participants 12 and younger must be accompanied by a person 16 or older.
