EAST CHICAGO | A 57-year-old East Chicago man was slain early Saturday morning by a single gunshot to the chest, according to the Lake County coroner's office.

Henry Austin, of 3813 Ivy St., was declared dead of an apparent homicide at 2:30 a.m. at St. Catherine Hospital in East Chicago, according to the coroner's office.

East Chicago police were not available for comment Saturday evening.
