Donations needed for 21st annual food drive

The Second Ward is sponsoring its 21st annual Thanksgiving food drive from Saturday to Dec. 22. All residents are welcome to participate. Calumet City Resources will distribute nonperishable food donations. The drop-off location for donations is at First Savings Bank of Hegewisch at 1100 Sibley Blvd.

Although some people are feeling the pinch from the economy, Second Ward Alderman Leni Wosczynski said they still should try to help those who are less fortunate. The need also is greater during tough times, she said.

Toy drive scheduled leading up to Christmas

The Second Ward is sponsoring a toy drive from Nov. 29 to Dec. 22 open to all residents.

Calumet City Resources will distribute the toys to needy children in Calumet City. The drop-off location is First Savings Bank of Hegewisch at 1100 Sibley Blvd. and Bank Financial at 1901 Sibley Blvd.

UNIVERSITY PARK

Information session on degree program slated

Governors State University will host a degree program information session from 5 to 7 p.m. Wednesday at Triton College.

Advisers and administrators will discuss degree programs, including the master of business administration and master of public administration programs and bachelor's degree programs in criminal justice, business and social work.

Prospective students are encouraged to attend this free, informal, walk-in session. The event will be at Triton College's University Center, Room R105, 2000 Fifth Ave., River Grove.
