HAMMOND | Purdue University Calumet has received a $575,000 award to fund up to 28 scholarships this fall, each valued at $4,450, for students majoring in engineering, engineering technology, computer science or mathematics. The application deadline is Saturday.
The award, from the National Science Foundation Directorate for Education and Human Resources, will support the Scholarships in Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics Program (S-STEM) for academically talented and financially challenged students. The award also supports academic mentoring.
The scholarships are renewable for up to four years contingent on maintaining a 3.0 minimum grade point average and participating in required activities.
Other than financial need as established by the NSF, recipients will be chosen based on academic merit and other indicators of likely academic and professional success, such as letters of recommendation and personal statements.
