Residents asked to join in National Night Out
Neighborhoods throughout Calumet City are invited to join the 24th annual National Night Out, a crime and drug prevention event, on Tuesday.
All residents can take part in the March on Crime, which will begin at 6:30 p.m. at Commissioners Park, at Memorial Drive just east of Exchange Avenue. The walk will be made through several blocks.
Attendees are encouraged to make signs that promote the event and spread the message that the neighborhoods will not tolerate crime and drugs.
Live entertainment will be provided by the Motown music group R GANG.

CALUMET CITY
Dunk tank event slated Saturday aids veterans
Bagley's Clubhouse will host its third annual charity dunk-tank event from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. Saturday.
Proceeds will be donated to the American Veteran Motorcycle Riders Association of Hammond, which helps veterans and their families in need.
Participants will have six chances to dunk bartenders from Bagley's and other local bars for $5. There will be hot dogs, a raffle, a disc jockey and a live band. Bagley's Clubhouse is located at the corner of Pulaski Road and Hirsch Street.

LANSING
Anti-crime party part of National Night out event
The Lansing Police Department will take part in the 24th annual National Night Out Against Crime from 6 to 9:30 p.m. Tuesday.
Residents are asked to lock their doors, turn on outside lights and spend the evening with neighbors and the Police Department.
They also can join forces with police by attending Give Crime and Drugs a Going Away Party at the Knights of Columbus grounds, 178th and Burnham Avenue. The party will feature a cookout with free food and beverages, raffles, giveaways, canine demonstrations, anti-crime talks and a flashlight/anti-crime march around the grounds.

SOUTH HOLLAND
Thornton Twp. festival features rides, music
The seventh annual Taste of Thornton Township will be Aug. 18 at Thornton Township Hall, 333 E. 162nd St., South Holland.
The event will feature musical performances by the Chi-Lites, The Mexican Dance Group and the Bertino School of Danceology.
There also will be a classic car show, food, children's rides and arts and crafts. The event lasts from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.

CPD announces plans for National Night Out
The Chicago Police Department's 4th District will host its annual National Night Out from 3 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the Chicago Vocational Career Academy, 2100 E. 87th St.
Law enforcement, elected officials and local businesses will be present as well as a DJ, face painters and dance performers. There also will be food, a crime march and rally, and a candlelight vigil. Admission is free.
