HOBART | The music room at Joan Martin Elementary School was filled with excitement Wednesday as students had their chance to try out various musical instruments.
The students gathered with music teacher Audrey Amsler and volunteers who gave the students some background on the various instruments they were about to play.
The students tried out the various woodwind and brass instruments, such as the trumpet, trombone, flute and saxophone.
The activity was part of Music in Our Schools Month, which also included student musicals and a musical scavenger hunt.
Art teacher Rita McBride, who plays flute in the community band Rusty Pipes, performed for the students and showed them how to play the flute.
Students were eager to try the various instruments and ran to the different stations to learn more.
First-grader Amy Sutliff was looking forward to the experience because she has a background in music.
Amy, who currently is learning to play the piano, has family members who play different instruments.
"We're a musical family," she said.
