MERRILLVILLE | Town officials said 101st Avenue near Broadway will open today, about one month after the roadwork initially was expected to be complete.
All of the paving is done, but workers still need to add permanent road lines, Public Works Director Bruce Spires said.
Spires expects the marking will be done sometime next week, and temporary road lines will be used until then.
The road has been closed since early July while Walsh & Kelly, of Griffith, worked to widen the street from two to four lanes between Broadway and Georgia Street.
The project was expected to be finished in mid-October, but work has been delayed at the site for several reasons, Spires said.
Most recently, the weather interrupted progress last week, and work also was delayed late last month when workers encountered more soft soil than anticipated, Spires said.
Workers had to cut away the soil and put rock in its place, he said.
