VALPARAISO | Police on Friday were investigating the second robbery in two months at a bank in Valparaiso.
Valparaiso police say a lone man robbed First National Bank at 2904 John Howell Drive just before 4 p.m.
Police spokesman Sgt. Michael Grennes said a man walked into the bank, handed the teller a note and got away with an undetermined amount of cash.
Police are still reviewing videotape of the event and did not have a description of the robber.
No one was injured, Grennes said.
The First National Bank robbery was one of three robbery attempts Friday in the region. Two men were in custody after two attempted bank robberies in Munster and Lansing Friday afternoon. Those robberies shut down Lansing's busy downtown during the lunch hour and involved a carjacking and a spectacular garage fire.
Valparaiso bank branch robbed on Friday was same branch that was robbed Friday, July 13, at 3:58 p.m.
In that incident a teller told police a Hispanic man in his mid-20s entered the bank and demanded money. The suspect in the July incident was described as a man about 5 feet 9 inches tall with short black hair and brown eyes, a stocky build with no facial hair.
Anyone with information related to either robbery is asked to call the Valparaiso Police Department at (219) 462-2135.
