SANDPIPER PRESCHOOL | Ogden Dunes

Sandpiper Co-operative Preschool is accepting registration for its program, which has been in operation for more than 30 years. Parents take turns helping the licensed teacher in their children's classes. Classes are held at the Ogden Dunes Community Church, 116 Hillcrest Road. The two-day class for 3-year-olds meets from 9 to 11 a.m. Tuesdays and Thursdays; the cost is $75 per month. The three-day class for 4- and 5-year-olds meets from 9 to 11:30 a.m. Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays; the cost is $90 per month. Class size is limited to 15 students per class. Students need to be 3 by Aug. 1 for the two-day class and 4 years old by Aug. 1 for the three-day class.

NATIVITY BINGO | Portage

Nativity of Our Savior offers bingo Monday evenings at the church hall, 2929 Willowcreek Road. Early-bird games start at 6 p.m., followed by regular bingo at 6:45 p.m. June 9 is Father's Day bingo; all dads play for $9.99. Dress in your tropical best on June 16 for Beach Party Bingo and play for $5 off the regular bingo price. June 23 is Wedding Party Bingo. Dress in your bridesmaid's dress or other wedding party attire and receive a free coverall. Prizes will be awarded for the best dressed. America's independence comes early when Nativity celebrates 4th of July Bingo on June 30. Wear America's colors and play for $9.99.

BRITISH SOCCER CAMP | Portage

The Portage Township YMCA and the Portage parks department are presenting a British Soccer Camp June 23 to 27 at Imagination Glen Park, 2275 McCool Road. Ages 3 and 4 meet from 9 to 10 a.m.; the cost is $60. Children 4 and 5 years old meet from 10 a.m. to noon; the cost is $75. Youths 6 to 9 years old meet from 9 a.m. to noon; the cost is $100. Children 10 to 14 years old meet from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m.; the cost is $100. The fee includes a ball and T-shirt. Applications and registration are available at the YMCA, 3100 Willowcreek Road.

RAINFOREST | Ogden Dunes

Participate in the Rainforest Adventure vacation Bible school from 9 a.m. to noon June 9 to 13 at Ogden Dunes Community Church, 116 Hillcrest Road. Children 4 years old through those going into sixth grade are welcome. There is no registration fee.

PUC REGISTRATION | Hammond

Open registration for the summer session at Purdue University Calumet will be held through June 6. Summer session classes begin June 9 and continue through Aug. 1. Classes take place at the Hammond campus and Purdue Calumet's Academic Learning Center in Merrillville. Registration will take place at the Hammond campus only from 8:30 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. through Thursday and 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Friday in Lawshe Hall, Room 130. Schedules are available at www.calumet.purdue.edu by clicking on the "Class Schedule" link at the bottom of the home page. Printed schedules are available at the Enrollment Services Center on the first floor of Lawshe Hall and at the Information Center on the concourse level of the Student Union & Library. KIDSCAMP REGISTRATION | South Haven

KidsCamp registration is now open at the South Haven Boys & Girls Club, 723 Long Run Road. Registration is being accepted from 6:30 to 8:30 a.m. and from 3:30 to 5:30 p.m. Mondays through Fridays. KidsCamp opens June 5 in South Haven.

CAPABLE PROGRAM | Portage

Parents wishing to study for their GED can bring their preschoolers along to the Portage Adult Education's CAPABLE program at the center, 5391 Central Ave. The program offers free child care for all enrollees, free transportation for Portage Township residents and free books and supplies. The free class is offered from 9:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. Mondays through Thursdays.

STUDENT ORIENTATION | Gary

Ivy Tech Community College-Northwest's Gary campus holds a new student orientation from 8:30 to 10 a.m. and 6 to 7:30 p.m. June 9 in the multipurpose room at 1440 E. 35th Ave. Students who enroll in the summer or fall may attend. The orientation will cover services that are available to students, how to register online, financial aid information and how to develop an academic success plan. RSVP.

COLLEGE FUNDING | Northwest Indiana

National College Funding Services offers $500 scholarships to high school students in Lake, Porter and LaPorte counties preparing to attend college in the fall. At no cost, the society helps students and parents navigate the college planning process from how to apply to college, how to choose which to attend and how to pay for college. The service center at 7109 Colorado Ave. in Hammond is open from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. weekdays. Two telephone lines are available: (219) 844-3252 and 803-4527. JUNIOR KINDERGARTEN | Portage

Hope Lutheran Junior Kindergarten in Portage is accepting registrations for the 2008-09 school year, which begins Sept. 2. To be registered, a child must be 4 years old by Aug. 1. A birth certificate and nonrefundable $20 fee will be required at time of registration. Junior kindergarten classes at Hope Lutheran, 6322 Portage Ave., meet Mondays through Thursdays. Tuition for the new year will be $90 per month.

PRESCHOOL REGISTRATION | Chesterton

Chesterton First United Methodist Preschool, 434 S. Second St., is accepting registrations for the 2008-09 school year. The cost to register is $65. The preschool program for 3- and 4-year-old children meets from 9 to 11:15 a.m. Tuesdays and Thursday. The pre-kindergarten program for 4- and 5-year-old children meets from 9 to 11:30 a.m. Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays.

SUMMER PRESCHOOL | Portage

Woodland Park Preschool will offer a summer preschool program from 9 to 11 a.m. on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays, June 9 to 27, at Woodland Park, 2100 Willowcreek Road. The summer program will have a nature focus, and children will take nature hikes, create crafts with natural materials and participate in games designed to teach and engage young children as they learn about their surroundings. The cost is $5 per resident and $55 per nonresident.

SUMMER DAY CAMP | Portage

The Portage Township YMCA will offer Adventure Camp and Summerz-R-WILD Day Camp during the summer. This summer there are 10 weeks of Day Camp that will meet from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Monday through Friday, starting June 9 and ending Aug. 15. For families wishing to use camp as a child care program, the Portage Township YMCA also provides before- and after-camp care called extended care. The camps are designed children in kindergarten through eighth grade and feature various value-centered experiences and fun activities. All campers need to bring a swimsuit and towel. Portage Township Schools provides free breakfasts for those campers who arrive before 7:30 a.m. and provides free lunches for all campers. If you choose to send a sack lunch and beverage to camp, for safety reasons, no glass bottles are permitted. There is a nonrefundable registration fee of $15, and a YMCA membership is required. The cost for camp only is $16 per child per day ($11.20 for Primary Plus members) or $70 per

child per week ($49 for Primary Plus members).

The cost for camp with extended care, which meets from 6:30 a.m. to 6 p.m., is $85 for the first child in the family per week ($59.50 for Primary Plus members) with discounted rates for the second and third child residing in the same house (on the $59.50 rate for Primary Plus members, there are no further savings for additional children). A per-day rate of $19 per child ($13.30 for Primary Plus members) is available with no further savings for additional children.

CHILDREN'S ART CAMP | Valparaiso

The Art Barn School of Art, 695 N. County Road 400 East, will offer children's art camps this summer. The cost is $115 and includes supplies and snacks. The camps are for children 5 to 10 years old. Camp meets from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Camp dates includes June 16 to 20, June 23 to 27, July 21 to 25 and July 28 to Aug. 1.

SPORTS NIGHT | Chesterton

Notre Dame Club of Northwest Indiana hosts its annual Sports Night with guest speaker Bernie Parmalee, assistant football coach, June 4 at Trinity Hall at St. Patrick Church, 638 N. Calumet Ave. Doors open at 6 p.m., and dinner is at 6:45 p.m.. Advance tickets are $35, or $40 at the door. Raffle prizes include tickets to the Notre Dame vs. Michigan football game and four tickets to "LIVE with Regis and Kelly" with a backstage tour. Proceeds benefit the club's scholarship fund and Student Summer Service Project.

INDIA CHOIR | Portage

The Portage First United Methodist Church, 2637 McCool Road, will present "Headhunters to Hearthunters," performed by the India Children's Choir, at 6:30 p.m. June 5. The choir consists of 22 children ages 8 to 12 years old. This is a free concert.

PRESCHOOL ACADEMIES | Portage

The Portage Township YMCA is now accepting registrations for the 2008-2009 preschool academies. All classes will meet in the newly remodeled and secured preschool academy wing of the YMCA building, 3100 Willowcreek Road. The nine-month program serves children who are one or two years away from starting kindergarten. The child must be able to use the restroom independently, and a YMCA membership is required.

Class size is limited to 16 children in the two-day-a-week classes and 18 children in the class that meets three days each week. Since space is limited, prompt registration is encouraged. The twice-weekly classes meet on Tuesdays and Thursdays. The child must be 3 years old on or before Aug. 1. The thrice-weekly classes meet on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays. The child must be 4 years old on or before Aug. 1. A nonrefundable registration fee of $20 is required. The fee for the twice-weekly class is $45 for Primary Plus members and $50 per month for Primary members. The fee for the thrice-weekly class is $67.80 per month for Primary Plus members and $75 per month for Primary members. A Primary YMCA membership costs $64 per year. The cost of a Primary Plus membership varies according to age and number of household members.

LADIES FISHING | Portage

Bass Pro Shops will host a five-class program geared toward the beginner adult fisherwoman. This introduction to fishing class will meet on four Wednesday nights and will end with a day of shore fishing to show off what has been learned. The class will meet at 7 p.m. June 4, 11, 18 and 25 at Bass Pro Shops, 6425 Daniel Burnham Drive. The final class will meet at a local lake for on-water shore fishing and a cookout. The location and date will be determined before the last class. This is a free class; however, space is limited. Participants must be at least 18 years old.
