Woman killed in crash on Bishop Ford

Alcohol is believed to have played a role in a crash on the Bishop Ford Freeway that killed a Chicago woman late Tuesday night.

According to Illinois State Police Trooper Jarrett Hagene, a vehicle was traveling in was going north on the freeway at 11:15 p.m. when it spun out of control on the wet, slushy road just south of 115th Street. The vehicle came to rest in the roadway facing east and was struck by another vehicle.

Hagene said the second vehicle attempted to stop, but was unable to do so before hitting the first vehicle.

The passenger in the vehicle that spun out of control was pronounced dead at an area hospital. The woman was identified as 43-year-old Velma Daniel.

Police said the driver, Shannon Daniel, was arrested and charged with aggravated driving under the influence and reckless homicide.
