LAKE STATION | Save the Dunes Conservation Fund will conduct a native seed collection to celebrate Coast Week 2008. The Indiana Coastal Restoration Action Team (ICRAT) project field training will be held at a remnant prairie near the intersection of 29th Avenue and State Street in Lake Station from 10 to 11 a.m. Sept. 11. Owned by Save the Dunes Conservation Fund, this prairie is an example of the expansive prairies seen throughout the Calumet Region in the past. Wear long pants and bring insect repellent. Turn south on Clay Street from Central Avenue. Turn right on 29th, then right on State Street.
Each year the Indiana Department of Natural Resources Lake Michigan Coastal Program and partner organizations work to celebrate the diversity and splendor of the Lake Michigan coastal region. The 2008 Lake Michigan Coast Week, September 5-14, will give Hoosiers the chance to celebrate the area's splendor and increase their awareness of the region's importance to northwest Indiana.
