MODEL RAILROADS | Crown Point
St. Matthias Men's Club hosts a Model Railroad Show and Swap Meet from 10:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. March 9 at St. Matthias Church Hall, 101 Burrell Drive, just west of Crown Point High School. HO, N, G, Lionel, Thomas the Train and model railroading items will be featured, with Lionel Model Train and Thomas the Tank Engine layouts. Admission is $3 for adults and $1 for children. SENIOR SYRUP TIME | Hobart
Senior citizens and senior groups are invited to a Maple Syrup Time program just for seniors from 1:30 to 3:30 p.m. March 10 or 17 at Deep River County Park, 9410 Old Lincoln Hwy. The program will be held indoors, with no walking involved. Learn about syrup making at the park, watch a video and share cake and coffee. Cost is $2 per person, and individuals and groups are welcome. Reservations are requested.

South Lake Branch of the American Association of University Women is hosting a luncheon meeting at 11:30 a.m. March 8 at Youche Country Club, 13232 Marshall St. The topic is "Women's Mental Health" and the guest speaker is Sandy Applebee, a licensed mental health counselor from Tri-City Mental Health in East Chicago. She will present information about mental health wellness, challenges faced by women at each stage of life and techniques to come back from compassion fatigue. Cost for lunch is $20.

Crown Point Lions Club will host its annual Spring Bingo Night at 7 p.m. today in the 4-H Building at the Lake County Fairgrounds, 889 S. Court St. Doors open at 6 p.m. Admission is $5 and extra cards will be available for those who bring eyeglasses or hearing aids to donate. Prizes will be hams. First District American Legion Las Vegas Night and Reverse Raffle will be held at 7 p.m. March 8 at Fred Schmidt American Legion Post 20, 1401 N. Main St. Doors open at 5 p.m. for an all-you-can-eat spaghetti dinner served until 7 p.m. for $4. Admission to the casino is free for blackjack, dice games, poker and wheel games. Calumet Stamp Club's annual stamp show, Caluplex, will be held from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. March 8 and 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. March 9 at Lincoln Center, 2450 Lincoln St. Admission to the show is free. The show will feature exhibits of members' collections and a bourse with 18 dealers who will offer a variety of stamps, covers, postcards and supplies. A table will feature thousands of stamps that will be sold for 3 cents each. Food will be sold. The club, which meets at 7 p.m. Wednesdays at Hammond Civic Center, 5825 Sohl Ave., is marking its 76th anniversary.
