A downed 138,000-volt wire caused an hour and a half power outage Thursday for about 5,000 homes in Dyer, St. John and Schererville, NIPSCO spokesman Jim Fitzer said.

The wire went down in the Crown Point/St. John area at 5:05 p.m. Fitzer said the problem was fixed, and power was restored about 6:25 p.m.
