Plant sale | Portage
The Portage Garden Club will hold its fall plant sale on Sept 13. The sale will be held at the Walgreens Drugstore on Central Avenue in downtown Portage. There will be a variety of plants from the members own gardens. Members will be available to answer questions about the plants.
The sale will be held rain or shine from 9 am to 12 noon.

SCAVENGER HUNT | Crown Point
Indiana Ghost Trackers are hosting an event open to the public. Their Haunted Scavenger Hunt is a fun event for those 21 or over. This will take the community to many areas throughout Lake and Porter Counties to capture spirits, solve puzzles and have fun. The event begins at 7 p.m. Oct. 4 at Antiques and Unique Treasures, 208 S. Main St. Everyone will be given a list of things to do, places to go and things to collect. Bring a camera. Cost is $10 per person.

Girl Scout kick off | Porter County

SUNDAY IN THE PARK | Valparaiso
The Valparaiso Parks Foundation is hosting its annual fall fundraiser Sunday In The Park from 4:30 to 7:30 p.m. Oct. 5 in the Butterfield Pavilion at the Old Fairgrounds Park in Valparaiso. "Evening of Champions" will boast interactive entertainment, hors d'oeuvres, dessert and a cash bar. The adult public is invited to join the Friends of the Park for this casual event. Tickets are $30 per person and are available at the Valparaiso Parks Office. All proceeds earned at this event will benefit the Valparaiso Parks Foundation in its mission to continue a legacy of exceptional parks that contributes to the unique quality of life in Valparaiso.

VNA Hospice Choir looking for new voices
The Visiting Nurse Association's Hospice Choir is looking for new members to join the group. The choir rehearses every other Monday evening in Valparaiso. Members learn a cappella pieces to perform at memorial services and in patient rooms at the Arthur B. and Ethel V. Horton VNA Hospice Center. Note reading is not a requirement, but some singing experience is preferred.

DIVORCE AND BEYOND | Valparaiso
This 10-week program offers hope and healing to men and women who are already divorced or have filed for divorce. This opportunity enables participants to work through grieving a significant loss with trained facilitators who know and understand their frustrations.
The first session is from 7 to 9 p.m. Sept. 16 at St. Paul Church, 1855 W. Harrison Blvd. Register by Sept. 15.

CELEBRATION | Porter Twp.
Salem United Methodist Church at 753 W. County Road 350 South, will celebrate 164 years of ministry on Sept. 21. The celebration will follow the 10 a.m. service. All pastors who previously served Salem, all past and present members, and friends are invited to join in a day of celebration that will have a beach theme. There will be a hog roast, plus hamburgers and hot dogs. Everyone is asked to bring a dish to share. There will be games for children and adults, plus a moon walk, snow cones, cotton candy, and for a small fee you can play Dunk the Pastor'. Two musical groups will provide the entertainment.

FIRE AUXILIARY COOKBOOK | South Haven
South Haven Fire Department Auxiliary has cookbooks featuring a collection of recipes from group members, family and friends available for sale. The cookbooks sell for $10, plus $4 for shipping and handling. They may be purchased from any member of the auxiliary or at South Haven Fire Department, 398 W. County Road 700 North. All proceeds will go to South Haven Fire Department Auxiliary and the community and department events the group sponsors throughout the year. The cookbook contains 200 well-loved recipes, including appetizers, main dishes and desserts.

RESALE SHOP | South Haven
The Portage Resale Shop, 404 W. U.S. 6, now lists special sales on its Web site, http://portageresaleshop.org/Home_Page.php. Watch for upcoming coupons on the Web site. The resale shop is seeking volunteers to serve as cashiers, to sort through donations and to help with various other jobs. Volunteers can earn "resale dollars" by volunteering a certain number of hours and by recruiting other volunteers. The shop also names a volunteer of the month. The shop's hours are 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Tuesday, Thursday, Friday and Saturday and from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. Wednesday. The Portage Resale Shop is a nonprofit organization. The money generated stays within Porter County.

Sandpiper Co-operative Preschool is accepting registration for its program, which has been in operation for more than 30 years. Parents take turns helping the licensed teacher in their children's classes. Classes are held at the Ogden Dunes Community Church, 116 Hillcrest Road. The two-day class for 3-year-olds meets from 9 to 11 a.m. Tuesdays and Thursdays; the cost is $75 per month. The three-day class for 4- and 5-year-olds meets from 9 to 11:30 a.m. Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays; the cost is $90 per month. Class size is limited to 15 students per class. Students need to be 3 by Aug. 1 for the two-day class and 4 years old by Aug. 1 for the three-day class.
