DYER | The Dyer Fire Department is inviting the community to its annual open house Saturday.

The event lasts from noon to 4 p.m. at Fire Station No. 1, 2150 Hart St.

The open house marks the end of Fire Prevention Week and will feature hands-on activities, such as proper fire extinguisher use and using a thermal imaging camera to visualize what firefighters see.

Firefighters also will conduct demonstrations, such as a high-angle rope rescue, two-vehicle auto extrication and search and rescue demonstration.

The Hummer Emergency Response Team, or HERT, will be on hand to display their vehicles, which were used to assist in the recent flooding.

Hot dogs, chips, popcorn and other refreshments will be served.

A $20 donation will enter you in a drawing for a chance to win one of several gas cards, the top prize being a $1,000 gas card. Names will be drawn in November.

For more information, call (219) 865-4226.
