ANNUAL SENIORS HOLIDAY PARTY | Hammond

Mayor Thomas M. McDermott, Jr., Hammond Parks and Recreation and the Department of Planning and Development invite all area seniors aged 55 years and over to attend the annual Seniors Only Holiday Party at the Hammond Civic Center, 5825 S. Sohl Ave. The party takes place from noon until 3 p.m. Dec. 17. There will be a live band, dancing, snacks, nonalcoholic beverages and door prizes. The cost is $8 per ticket. Attendees must pre-register and pay by Dec. 10 the Hammond Civic Center Business Office during regular business hours 8 a.m. to 6:45 p.m. Mondays through Fridays. No phone registrations, please.

Highland Parks and Recreation Department offers senior low-impact aerobics 9:30 to 10 a.m. Mondays and Wednesdays at Lincoln Center, 2450 Lincoln St. The cost for this mini-session is $9.50 for residents and $12.50 for nonresidents. Register.

KEEPING CURRENT | Homewood

Homewood-Flossmoor Park District announces Keeping Current discussion group for participants ages 55 and older. Drop in for lively, interesting discussions about things that are happening in the world today. All participants and opinions will be respected in this current events discussion group. The Bonner Senior Center offers senior citizen-geared yoga classes at 9:45 a.m. Mondays at the center, 5800 Lexington Ave. Participants must be 55 years or older and members of the Bonner Senior Center to participate. Membership is $10 per year.

KIWANIS GOLDEN K CLUB | Lansing

Kiwanis Golden K Club meets at 1:30 p.m. every Wednesday at the Eisenhower Center. Retirees age 55 and older are welcome. The group holds fund-raisers to help local students and organizations. The club contributes to three high schools, Camp Quality for children with cancer, Twin Lakes Camp for children with handicaps, purchases books for kindergarteners, Key Club at Thornton Fractional South and more. Some group activities include sending gift packs to veterans, reading to students, collecting for the Salvation Army and more.

BINGO DINNERS | Lake Station

Enjoy dinner and play bingo on Mondays and Thursdays at American Legion Post 100, 1899 Central Ave. Doors open at 4 p.m., early birds start at 6 p.m., and regular games start at 7 p.m. Various set-ups are available. The Humane Society Calumet Area, 421 45th St., is offering a $50 discount to anyone over 60 years old when they give a shelter animal a "forever home." This makes the price of a dog (older than 6 months) only $50 and a puppy (younger than 6 months) for $100 or a cat (older than 6 months) $20 and a kitten (younger than 6 months) $50. Pet interaction with seniors has shown to improve life quality for both animal and owner.
