MEETING | Portage
The Polish-American Cultural Society of Northwest Indiana will meet on Oct. 15 in the Cana Room of Nativity of Our Savior Catholic Church, 2949 Willowcreek Road. Participants may attend one or both topics of discussion:
4:30 - 6:30 p.m. - Polish language for beginners of any age.
6:30 n 8:30 p.m. n Polish culture, customs, history, and geography topics as well as intermediate Polish language. Admission is free, and pre-registration is not required.

SWEETEST DAY DINNER | South Haven
South Haven Lions Club Italian buffet will be served from 4 to 7 p.m. Oct. 18 at the South Haven American Legion Post 502, 429 W. County Road 750 North. The cost is $10 for adults and $5 for ages 6 to 12. Several Italian entrees are planned along with salad, garlic bread, beverage and dessert.
All proceeds will go to support efforts in the community to help those in need have an enjoyable holiday this Christmas.

KIDS CLUB | Portage
Cross Trainers Kids Club is for kids in kindergarten and first grade at Holy Cross Lutheran Church, 5402 U.S. 6. Each Sunday evening in October from 6:30 to 7:45 p.m. children will enjoy secret club activities including mysterious Bible stories, special undisclosed craft activities and a mystery prop. Valparaiso Fire Fighters Local 1124 will host a garage sale fundraiser Oct. 17-19. Hours are 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. Oct. 17, 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Oct. 18 and 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Oct. 19 at the old Fetla's building located at 1457 S. Ind. 2. Items include housewares, toys, tools, building supplies, clothes, furniture, baby clothes, toys, desks and more. Hot dogs, popcorn, pop and water will be available. Fire trucks and fire fighters will be on site. Proceeds from the sale help support community charitable events.

Salem United Methodist Church will sponsor an all-you-can-eat breakfast from 7 to 11 a.m. Oct. 25 at Salem Fellowship Hall, 756 W. County Road 350 South. Northview Elementary School will hold its fall carnival from 5 to 8 p.m. Oct. 18 at the school, 257 Northview Drive. Sponsored by the Northview PTO, the carnival includes a haunted house, games with prizes including two cake walks and an assortment of carnival treats from pizza to cotton candy. RUN FOR ROSES | Schererville
Campagna Academy's fourth annual Run for the Roses is set for Oct. 25 at 7403 Cline Ave. The race is a 5K Run/2.5 Mile Walk & .25 Mile Kids' Fun Run that helps raise funds for the therapeutic and educational needs of at-risk adolescents at Campagna. On site registration is from 7:30 to 8:30 a.m. The kids' fun run will begin at 8:30 and both the run and walk begin promptly at 9.
