CROWN POINT | Crown Point police arrested a Cedar Lake man after he was seen trying to get into a police transport van in the Police Department parking lot in the 100 block of North East Street, police said.

The man, who is not being named because he has not been formally charged, was spotted by authorities about 3:40 a.m. Saturday, police said.

After staggering away from the transport van, the man walked to where other police vehicles were parked in the lot, police said. The man ran when an officer approached and was caught after a brief struggle, police said.

Police arrested the man on suspicion of resisting law enforcement and public intoxication. Police said they determined no police vehicles had been entered.
