CHICAGO | The Saint Sebastian Players open their 27th season with "A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum," with music and lyrics by Stephen Sondheim and book by Burt Shevelove and Larry Gelbart. Performances begin Friday and continue through Nov. 11 at St. Bonaventure, 1625 W. Diversey, Chicago.
This fast-paced and witty show combines situations from the 2,000-year-old comedies of Roman playwright Plautus with the energy of classic vaudeville. Well-known songs include "Comedy Tonight," "Lovely" and "Everybody Ought to Have a Maid."
The show is directed by SSP member Rob DeBock. The cast includes SSP members Lee Adam, Robert Dean, Jim Masini, Ray Sanders and Steven Walanka, as well as Tyler Dean and Kelly Bixby, Carolyn Ewald, Kelsi Karch, Kelly Rhyne, Scott Stuart and Allison Tacker. Barbara Murphy-Sanders is musical director, Ruth Coyle is choreographer, Heather McConaha is costume designer, John Oster is technical director, Keta Roth is lighting designer, and Masini is producer.
Performances are at 8 p.m. Fridays and Saturdays and 2 p.m. Sundays. Free parking is available in two lots. Tickets are $15, $10 for students with valid IDs and $7 for seniors and children younger than 12.
