A woman who was not invited to her sister's wedding reception showed up anyway and attacked the bride, pulling clumps of hair from her head, striking her head and taking her to the ground, the Porter County Sheriff's Department said.
The suspect, Annmarie Bricker, 23, of 1605-1 Potawatomi Lane, Valparaiso, was arrested on a misdemeanor battery charge. She faces up to a year in jail if convicted.
Bricker, who was working as a Porter County 911 dispatcher at the time of the arrest, has since resigned, county officials said.
Police said the attack occurred about 4:20 p.m. Friday at Jeremy Glotzbach's home in the 600 block of West County Road 900 South in the Hebron area.
Glotzbach told police he was hosting a wedding reception for Nicholas Landry and Lori Kappes, who is Bricker's sister. Glotzbach told police Bricker, who was not invited to the reception, attacked her sister on the front porch of the home and had to be pulled away.
Police said the talked to the victim, who they say had smeared makeup and clumps of hair missing from her head. The victim, who declined medical treatment, stated she has had ongoing problems with Bricker.
The victim told police she arrived at the reception and, while still in a car, saw Bricker pull up and begin pounding on her car window. The victim stated she initially refused to get out of the car, then got out and walked toward the home while ignoring Bricker.
The victim told police Bricker screamed at her and then attacked her.
Bricker told police she arrived at the home to confront her sister and parents and "just wanted to talk" about family problems. She stated she never touched her sister, but rather was jumped by three people. Police, however, said five witnesses stated Bricker attacked her sister. Police said three of the witnesses tried to separate the two women, but Bricker's friend began hitting and pulling on one of them.
Bricker's children, who were in her vehicle during the altercation, were released to their father.
