HAMMOND — An East Chicago man and his girlfriend accused of stealing nearly $200 in Red Bull energy drinks from a Speedway gas station were charged Wednesday with theft.

Cecelia Laury Reynoso, 27, was charged with misdemeanor theft for allegedly driving Anthony Michael Shea, 46, to and from the Speedway gas station, 7405 Calumet Ave., to carry out the theft.

Shea has been charged with one count of felony theft for allegedly taking multiple cans of Red Bull from the Speedway on three occasions between Sept. 14 and Nov. 26, according to the probable cause affidavit.

A gas station employee contacted police after she noticed several missing Red Bull cans from the shelves Sept. 14.

She noticed the empty shelves again on Oct. 31 and Nov. 26 and provided police with surveillance footage from the store after it appeared the same two people were carrying out the theft, records show.

A white or Hispanic male is seen entering the store on these dates, taking the Red Bull, and leaving in a red Ford Expedition driven by a female.

Police say they released surveillance footage in January and subsequently received “numerous calls, emails and messages” from the public positively identifying the individuals as Reynoso and Shea.

Reynoso told police she drove Shea to the gas station, knowing he would steal the Red Bull and later turn around and sell the Red Bull to various small corner grocery stores, court records show.

He sold the energy drinks to stores to support a drug addiction, she said.

Shea admitted the theft to police, saying he had “a lot of bills to pay” and was “trying to get his house together” so he and Reynoso would get their children back from Child Protective Services.

Anyone with information about this case is asked to call Detective Sgt. John Suarez at 219-852-2981.
