GARY — Police responding to a suspicious vehicle were led to a home where a man was found dead Monday in an apparent homicide, Lt. Dawn Westerfield said.

According to the Lake County Coroner's office, Edward Norwood, 56, of the 3600 block of Johnson St., died as a result of trauma.

Westerfield said police responded about 1:50 p.m. to a vehicle in the 4200 block of Monroe Street where they observed a substance believed to be blood while checking the vehicle. Officers traveled to the 3600 block of Johnson Street to do a welfare check on the vehicle owner. Upon arrival, the front door was found ajar and officers began checking the residence. Police said Norwood was found in a bedroom and later declared deceased at the scene by the coroner.
