CROWN POINT — The 16-year-old girl charged with murdering her mother at their Gary home appeared in court Thursday.
Chastinea Reeves appeared before Judge Diane Boswell with defense attorney John Cantrell. Cantrell requested a new court date of Jan. 18.
Reeves is charged with murder in Lake Criminal Court on allegations she fatally stabbed Jamie M. Garnett on Feb. 13 at their home in the 4400 block of West 23rd Place in Gary.
Reeves was initially charged as a juvenile for the crime, but the case was waived to the criminal court in July.
Cantrell said at a court hearing in September he wanted to address a motion to suppress statements initially filed in Lake County Juvenile Court.
He told the judge Thursday that motion, which was filed by Reeves' previous attorney, needed to be transferred from the juvenile court to be addressed.
