CROWN POINT — A 52-year-old man was arrested Wednesday on allegations he sexually assaulted a woman last month in Hammond.

John J. Huber, of Hammond, is charged in Lake Criminal Court with rape, a level 3 felony.

The 35-year-old woman told police Huber and two other friends helped her move to a new home Oct. 26 in Griffith, according to a probable cause affidavit.

She said after moving she went with the friends to a bar in Hammond, which closed at 3 a.m.

She said they returned to her home in Hammond, and she told them she was going to sleep, according to the affidavit. She said she awoke to Huber raping her.

The woman called 911 and Huber left the home, the affidavit states.

The woman said Huber told her, “I've been wanting to do that to you for a year,” the affidavit states.

The woman said she had a couple of drinks at the bar, but she was not intoxicated, the affidavit states.

Huber admitted in a statement to police he performed the sexual acts alleged, but said it was consensual, according to the affidavit.

Huber posted a $3,000 cash bond Thursday, according to court records. The court records do not indicate if Huber has retained an attorney.
