HAMMOND — Police say they have a person in custody after he tried to rob a woman of $5 in the Aldi's parking lot Monday night.

Hammond police Lt. Steven Kellogg said officers responded about 5:40 p.m. to the parking lot of Aldi's grocery store, 7925 Indianapolis Blvd.

A 56-year-old told police she ran from her vehicle after she saw a man enter from the passenger side. He was able to take about $5 from the victim before fleeing from the area, police said.

Officers checked the area and located the suspect, Kellogg said. The suspect was arrested and is awaiting charges.

The name is being withheld pending formal charges.
