CROWN POINT — A man was arrested last week on allegations he violently sexually assaulted a woman at a vacant home in Gary's Glen Park section.
Willie Lee Dixon, 50, of Gary, is charged in Lake Criminal Court with sexually assaulting the 26-year-old woman Wednesday at a house in the 4300 block of Harrison Street, according to court documents.
The woman told police she was walking home from work after 10:45 p.m. when a man asked her at a gas station if she smoked weed or crack, documents state.
She continued walking home, but the man followed her, documents state. She called her brother to discourage the man from following her, but heard quick footsteps before the man attacked.
She said she struggled, but the man stabbed her in the lower back and legs, documents state. He dragged her to a nearby abandoned home, where he sexually assaulted her at knife point.
The woman's brother contacted police, who were dispatched to 41st Avenue and Harrison Street, documents state. Officers found blood and drag marks in the snow leading to the abandoned house.
The officers called out down the basement stairs, and the woman responded, according to documents. She escaped the man's grasp and fled up the stairs to police.
Dixon was arrested in the basement with assistance from a K-9 unit, documents state.
Dixon is charged with rape, kidnapping, two counts of felony battery, intimidation and strangulation.
Dixon is jailed without bond, according to court records.
