PINE TOWNSHIP — A 31-year-old Michigan City man is facing several charges after he allegedly struck a Porter County highway truck and fled the accident scene.

The incident happened at 12:26 p.m. Monday on LaPorte/Porter County Line Road at Burdick Road, according to police.

The driver, who has not been identified pending the filing of charges, allegedly ran a 1989 Oldsmobile passenger car into the back of the stopped county truck, which was filling potholes.

The man fled on foot before police arrived, taking all the car's paperwork as well as the license plate.

Officer Doug Schafer and his K9 partner Fury were called to the scene. Fury tracked the man to a barn a little over a quarter of a mile north of the accident, police said, adding the man refused to comply with police orders and was apprehended by the K9.

The man was transported to Porter Regional Hospital for a dog bite and injuries suffered in the crash. Charges are pending for misdemeanor counts of leaving the scene of a crash, resisting law enforcement and operating while intoxicated.
