LAPORTE — The Porter County Bomb Squad and other law enforcement agencies were on scene Wednesday night in a residential neighborhood near LaPorte High School for a report of a possible explosion device in the 700 block of F Street, authorities said.

LaPorte County Sheriff Capt. Mike Kellems said some of the department's deputies were assisting at the scene. Police were called to the area at about 6 p.m., he said.

Don Kopaniski, who said he lives in the 700 block of F Street, said he and his wife were told to evacuate their home at about 6:15 p.m.

People were on social media Wednesday night discussing how people were to evacuate the area as a precautionary measure.

Kellems said the LaPorte City Police Department was the lead agency.

Porter County Sgt. Jamie Erow deferred all questions to the LaPorte City Police Department.
