GARY — A man was robbed of money, jewelry and a 2016 Buick early Saturday in a city alley, and the car was later found in flames, police said.

The 29-year-old Gary man told police he was was waiting in the Buick in an alley near East 20th Avenue and Georgia Street about 1:25 a.m. when a man approached his window and displayed a gun, Lt. Dawn Westerfield said.

The driver exited the car and handed over his valuables, and the gunman got into the car and drove off, police said. The driver wasn't injured.

Police found the car fully engulfed a short time later in the area of East 26th Avenue and Virginia Street, Westerfield said.
