GARY — A 42-year-old Portage man and an 18-year-old Crown Point man were wounded in separate shootings Wednesday and Thursday, police said.

Gary police were dispatched to a local hospital about 4:11 p.m. Wednesday after the Portage man arrived with two gunshot wounds to the chest, Lt. Dawn Westerfield said.

The man was unable to speak with detectives about where the shooting occurred, she said.

Detective Sgt. Michael Barnes is investigating.

The Crown Point man arrived at the hospital about 6:15 a.m. Thursday, seeking treatment for a gunshot wound to the arm, police said.

Police were told the Crown Point man and a 21-year-old Gary man were in the 2400 block of Clark Road sometime between 4:50 and 6 a.m. when another man attempted to rob them. The pair tried to run and heard gunshots, police said.

The Gary man helped the Crown Point man to a vehicle and drove him to the hospital, police said.

Detective Sgt. Gregory Wolf is investigating.

Anyone with information about the shootings is asked to call detectives at 219-881-1210. To remain anonymous, call 866-CRIME-GP.
