CROWN POINT — A 57-year-old man accused of shooting and wounding a couple while a guest in their Gary home last October is scheduled to appear at trial in April.

Edward M. Pointer appeared Tuesday in Lake Criminal Court with defense attorney John Maksimovich. Maksimovich said the defense was awaiting medical records for the alleged victims, but agreed to an April 9 trial date.

A pretrial conference was scheduled for March 6.

Pointer is charged with two counts of attempted murder and two counts of battery committed with a deadly weapon.

Pointer allegedly shot the man and woman, both 45, after he appeared Oct. 19, 2016, at their home in the 1900 block of Delaware Street. The husband told police Pointer shot him twice in the chest, and then fired three shots into his bedroom, hitting his wife in the leg.

Pointer was arrested March 20, according to court records. He was released from jail on a $10,000 bond May 22.
