LAPORTE — Police believe they've closed the books on two of the four recent gas station armed robberies in LaPorte.

The latest robbery at gunpoint Thursday night was at the Marathon station on Ind. 2 on the city's west side, police said.

A man later identified as Jonathon Thode was found less than 15 minutes later on 18th Street near the Mayflower Motel where he had been living, authorities said.

Thode, 31, and Richard Taylor Jr., 26, of Michigan City, were arraigned Friday in LaPorte Circuit Court on level 3 felony counts of robbery.

Taylor allegedly robbed Citgo, 104 E. Lincolnway, on April 18. Three days later, he was arrested on charges of possession of heroin at a suspected drug house on West 13th Street, police said.

LaPorte Police Chief of Detectives Tom Thate said an image of the Citgo suspect captured on surveillance video was among the evidence leading to Taylor.

Both men were still being held in the LaPorte County Jail on $25,000 cash only bond.
