1 wounded in shooting on Borman Expressway ramp

Bullet holes are seen in the back of a Nissan Altima after a shooting early Friday on two ramps on Interstates 65 and 80/94. One person was wounded, police said.

GARY — A 46-year-old Gary resident was wounded early Friday after someone fired multiple gunshots at the car in which he was riding, police said.

Four people who were in a 2015 Nissan Altima told police they left a bar in Merrillville and were in the area of northbound Interstate 65 and westbound Interstate 80/94 when they heard gunfire, Indiana State Police said.

They continued driving and exited Interstate 80/94 at Broadway, where they heard more gunfire, police said.

The only description of the vehicle from which shots were fired was that it was possibly a Chevrolet, police said. The group went north on Broadway toward Methodist Hospitals Northlake Campus and reported last seeing the car near 23rd Avenue and Broadway.

The 46-year-old was treated at the hospital for a non-life-threatening wound, police said. A 25-year-old and 29-year-old, both from Gary, and 45-year-old Merrillville resident in the car with the victim were not hurt.

Police found multiple bullet casings on the interstate and ramp.

Anyone with information about the shooting is asked to call Detective Gary Runde at 219-696-6242.
