GARY — A 27-year-old man was shot in the hand early Christmas Eve when a group of people showed up at an apartment to settle a dispute, police said.

Gary police were dispatched about 2:35 a.m. to the 5800 block of Kennedy Terrace in the city's Miller section for a 911 hangup.

Officers located the Gary man, who was taken by ambulance to a local hospital, Lt. Dawn Westerfield said.

Investigators learned the shooting may have stemmed from an earlier dispute involving another person, who was not present when the man was shot.

Anyone with information is asked to call Detective Sgt. Daniel Callahan at 219-881-1210. To remain anonymous, call 866-CRIME-GP.
