$70,000 in diamond jewelry reported stolen
CHESTERTON | Two Chesterton residents reported the theft of $70,000 worth of jewelry from their unlocked vehicle Wednesday at their house on Amen Corner.
David and Margaret Zinn told police someone stole a bag containing the jewelry and prescription pills. The stolen jewelry includes $35,000 three- to four-carat diamond stud earrings, two $5,000 diamond rings, a $2,500 diamond ring, a $4,000 diamond pendant, a $10,000 diamond ring, a $7,000 necklace with a hanging diamond and a $1,500 diamond necklace.
16-year-old charged as an adult with rape
PORTAGE | A 16-year-old Portage boy was charged as an adult with sexually assaulting a girl who was staying at his family's home for a week in March.
William L. Tracy, of 416 4th St., was charged Wednesday with two counts of criminal deviate conduct. He is accused of forcing the girl, under threat of a beating, to perform a sex act on him twice and to submit to a sex act on three occasions.
The girl told police Tracy had hit her in the past and threatened to kill her if she told her mother.
Cops: Man hit another in station parking lot
CHESTERTON | Chesterton police responded to a disturbance in their own parking lot and determined one man head-butted another man and choked him.
The suspect, David Danko, 47, of Chesterton, was arrested on a battery charge at 10 p.m. Wednesday. Police said the fight resulted from a child custody exchange involving Danko's daughter and the man Danko is accused of battering.
