HAMMOND | The federal trial of a Florida man accused of sexually assaulting a 9-year-old boy for two weeks in Indiana began in court Monday.

David Alan Resnick, 33, allegedly committed his acts in Indiana while working as a truck driver, according to court records.

Resnick was first charged in May 2011 with aggravated sexual abuse of a minor and transportation of child pornography.

Prosecutors say Resnick took a 9-year-old boy on a road trip with him while driving through Indiana in summer 2008. During that time, he engaged in several sexual acts with the boy, as well as showed the boy several photo and video images of child pornography, records state.

At one point when he was pulled over by police, records state, Resnick put a gun to the boy's head and warned him not to tell police what was happening.

Resnick initially pleaded guilty to transportation of child pornography in February, but at a plea hearing, Magistrate Judge Andrew Rodovich recommended against the agreement, saying Resnick wasn't candid after prosecutors said he denied responsibility of some facts.

In a superseding indictment filed in June, Resnick was charged with additional counts of using a firearm in furtherance of a crime of violence and being a felon in possession of a weapon.

After the failed plea, Resnick made multiple attempts to quash testimony from his plea hearing, as well as from at least four other minors he is alleged to have commited criminal acts with, but who are not involved in his current case.

Among the minors is an 8-year-old boy Resnick is accused of molesting at a hotel in Hobart in 2008, after inviting him to a "pool party" there, records show. Senior Judge James T. Moody denied Resnick's attempts to quash the testimony.

In a separate case, Resnick was sentenced in federal court in Florida to 10 years in prison and lifetime supervision in January 2012, after pleading guilty to possessing child pornography.
