Rick Suarez, of Hammond, is raising money for the Alzheimer's Association as part of his participation in the upcoming Chicago Marathon.

He is hosting a fundraiser from 5 to 9 p.m. Saturday at American Legion Post 369, 1401 W. Chicago Ave. in East Chicago. The event includes a silent auction, food, music and dancing.

Suarez, a retired Hammond firefighter and the owner of Calumet Painting, aims to raise $20,000 for the Alzheimer's Association. His mother, Rachel "Quele" Suarez, was diagnosed with Alzheimer's disease five years ago.

Tickets are $30 for adults and $10 for children 17 and younger. Buffet tickets are available at the door. All proceeds support the Alzheimer's Association.

Call 219-844-7501 for tickets or additional information. To donate directly to Suarez's campaign, visit calumetpainting.com.
