Sons of the American Legion Squadron 80 will have its annual pork chop dinner from 4 to 7:30 p.m. Oct. 9 at American Legion Post 80, 2003 Indianapolis Blvd. Meal includes pork chops and applesauce, mashed potatoes and gravy, baked beans and green beans. Dessert and coffee will be served. Adults eat for $8, children for $4. Carry-outs are available.

Texas Hold 'Em | Hammond

St. Catherine of Siena School will hold a Texas Hold 'Em Tournament Oct. 17 at the school, 6525 Kentucky Ave. The buy in price will be $75 per person. The dinner will be from 6 to 7 p.m. with the tournament following.

Benefit | Highland

A casino and royale poker event is from 6 to midnight Oct. 11 at St. James Hall, 45th and Kennedy avenues. It will benefit needy families through Knights of Columbus Council 8082. It's for ages 21 and older. Admission is $10 and includes food and beverages.

Hope rally | Munster

A benefit concert to help Munster's flood victims will take place at 5:30 p.m. Oct. 12 at Family Christian Center, 340 W. 45th St. Community churches, political leaders and business leaders have put together the event.

Rummage sale | Hammond

A rummage sale is from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Oct. 11 at First Presbyterian Church, 6021 Hohman Ave. Proceeds will benefit community flood victims. A free hot dog lunch is available with a purchase.

Spaghetti dinner | Hammond

The Military Order of the Purple Heart is having a spaghetti dinner from 4 to 7 p.m. Oct. 9 at VFW Post 802, 5820 Hohman Ave. Iraq and Afghanistan veterans who have received the Purple Heart are invited. If they bring a copy of their discharge document, there is no charge for dinner.

CHICKEN DINNERS | Dyer

Dyer United Methodist Church will offer Nelson's Famous Port-A- Pit Chicken from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Oct. 11 in the Dyer Walgreens parking lot at U.S. 30 and Calumet Ave. Only cash can be accepted. After purchasing chicken, go to Dyer United Methodist Church, 2016 Church St., to browse through a large selection of books, DVDs and CDs at the first book sale from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Bake sale | Highland

The Highland Grandmothers Club will host a bake sale from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Oct. 11 at the Highland Elks Lodge 981, 3120 45th St. All proceeds from this event will help support the children's organization CURE.

Pancake breakfast | Munster

A pancake breakfast is from 8 to 10 a.m. Oct. 11 at Munster Applebee's, Ridge Road. Proceeds will benefit flood victims. It's $5 per person. Price includes a raffle ticket for a drawing that will take place after the breakfast. Winner need not be present to win.

Gala planned | Hammond

The sixth annual gala to support Nazareth Home will take place from 6 to 9 p.m. Oct. 16 at Hammond Federal Courthouse, 5400 Federal Plaza. There will be live and silent auctions, raffle tickets and celebrity chefs. Tickets are $60 per person.

Pack the Park | Munster

Pack the Park will take place from 2 to 10 p.m. Oct. 18 at Centennial Park on Calumet Avenue. The community event is planned to bring the Munster residents and the community together to support flood victims. The day will include live music and family activities such as face painting, a bounce house, clowns and more. Food and beer will be sold. All proceeds will benefit the flood victims. Admission is $10 for adults and $5 for children 2 to 18. Munster residents whose homes were damaged by the floods can attend for free.

Fundraiser | Hammond

The Towle Theater will host a fundraiser, 24 Hours of Towle, which will include 24 hours of continuous programming. The fundraiser will start at 8 p.m. Oct. 17 and end at 8 p.m. Oct. 18. The theater is at 5205 Hohman Ave. Some of the scheduled events are Valerie Webdell on piano, Taylor Garrison acoustic guitar/vocal set, vocals by DJ Halicky, corn-hole bean bag tourney, kid's monologue presentations, dance performance with Amanda Touhy, more music, bingo, trivia games, Red Dirt movie presentation, Ship of Fools improv comedy troupe from Purdue University Lafayette and more. All tickets must be paid for in advance and are nonrefundable.

The members of Whiting American Legion Post 80 will have a pancake breakfast from 7 a.m. to 1 p.m. Oct. 19 at the post home, 2003 Indianapolis Blvd. All the pancakes and sausage you can eat for $6 for adults and $3 for children. Proceeds are used for the Whiting American Legion Baseball program. Carry-outs will be available.
