GARY | The Gary Public Library Board of Trustees invite the public to a reception introducing the library's new director, Sherri Ervin, to the community.

The reception will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday at the Main Library 220 W. 5th Ave.

Ervin, a Gary resident, began her library career about 23 years ago as a library page at the Gary Public Library's Kennedy Branch. She received her bachelor's in behavioral science/psychology from Purdue University and her master's degree in library science at Clark Atlanta University in Georgia.

Ervin previously served as branch manager for libraries with the Chicago Public Library. As the new library director, she will be responsible for the daily operations of the Main Library and five branch library facilities.

"This a great opportunity to demonstrate to the community, state of Indiana and nation what a valuable and great organization Gary

Public Library really is," Ervin said in a news release. "I look forward to strengthening and supporting the education, enjoyment and life-long learning skills of the Gary community by working to provide equal access to information, ideas and knowledge through books, programs and other resources."
