Bill approved requiring massage therapist licensing
INDIANAPOLIS | Massage therapists would have to be licensed to practice their craft under legislation approved 43-5 by the Indiana Senate on Tuesday.
Senate Bill 10, sponsored by state Sen. Sue Landske, R-Cedar Lake, replaces the existing certification requirement with licensing by the state board of massage therapy.
If the measure is enacted, the massage therapy board would set licensing standards. All currently certified massage therapists would receive a license.
Licensed medical professionals who provide massage therapy would not have to obtain a separate massage therapy license.
The legislation now advances to the House.
