INDIANAPOLIS | Crown Point billionaire Dean White donated $250,000 Friday to the campaign fund of Republican Gov. Mike Pence.
The gift from White, whose billboard and hotel empires have produced a Forbes-estimated net worth of $1.9 billion, keeps him well out front as Pence's most generous supporter.
Including his latest donation, White has given the Pence campaign $775,000 since May 2011, according to Indiana campaign finance records. Overall, one out of every $20 raised by Pence has come from White.
It's not clear what prompted last week's donation.
In June, White gave Pence $100,000 after campaign manager Kyle Robertson sent Pence supporters an urgent plea for cash to help pump up the governor's fundraising totals at the end of the semiannual reporting period.
Robertson, who is now executive director of the Indiana Republican Party, did not return a telephone message seeking comment on White's latest gift.
Pence, who has been in office eight months, does not have to stand for re-election until November 2016.
