It will be clear sailing in Northwest Indiana for 12 federal and state legislative incumbents who are going unchallenged in the May 8 primary.

Only three state legislators in Lake County face opposition from fellow Democrats this spring.

The two other legislative races involve Democrats vying for empty seats in the Indiana General Assembly.

Congress

U.S. Senate

U.S. Sen. Joe Donnelly is running unopposed for re-election in the Democratic primary.

Mike Braun and outgoing U.S. Reps. Luke Messer and Todd Rokita, a Munster native, are running for U.S. Senate in the GOP primary.

1st House U.S. House

Larry Chubb and Antonio "Tony" Daggett Sr. are challenging U.S. Rep. Peter J. Visclosky in the Democratic primary.

Republicans Jeremy D. Belko, David Dopp, Roseann P. Ivanovich, Mark Leyva and John Meyer are vying for the GOP nomination. This is Leyva's seventh run for Congress.

Indiana General Assembly

1st Senate District

State Sen. Frank Mrvan Jr. is being challenged by Chris Kukuch and Mark T. Kurowski in the Democratic party primary. Republican Charles B. Kallas is running unopposed in the GOP primary.

4th Senate District

State Sen. Karen Tallian is running unopposed in the Democratic primary. Republican Cole Stultz is running unopposed in the GOP primary.

6th Senate District

State Sen. Rick Niemeyer is running unopposed in the GOP primary and will face off this fall with Democrat Ryan Farrar, who is running unopposed in his party's primary.

1st House District

Democrat Carolyn B. Jackson, of Hammond, is running unopposed for the seat being vacated by state Sen. Linda Lawson. No Republican is running this spring in the district.

2nd House District

Jayson H. Reeves and Rosa Maria "Rose" Rodriguez are challenging state Rep. Earl Harris Jr. in the Democratic party primary. No Republican is running this spring in the district.

3rd House District

Gary City Councilwoman Ragen H. Hatcher and Jessica Renslow are vying for the seat being vacated by state Rep. Charlie Brown. No Republican is running in the district.

4th House District

State Sen. Ed Soliday is running unopposed in the GOP primary. This fall he will face Democrat Frank Szczepanski, who is running unopposed in the Democratic party spring primary.

8th House District

State Rep. Ryan M. Dvorak is running unopposed in the Democratic primary. No Republican is running this spring in this district.

9th House District

Democrats Patricia A. "Pat" Boy, Sean Fitzpatrick and Duane Parry, a former Michigan City councilman, are running for the seat being vacated by state Rep. Scott Pelath. Republican Dan Granquist is running unopposed in the GOP primary.

10th House District

State Rep. Charles "Chuck" Mosley is running unopposed in the Democratic primary. No Republican is running this spring in this district.

11th House District

State Rep. Michael Aylesworth is running unopposed in the Republican primary. Delano Scaife is running unopposed in the Democratic party primary.

12th House District

Pamela R. Eanes is challenging state Rep. Mara Candalaria Reardon in the Democratic primary. No Republicans are running this spring in the district.

14th House District

State Rep. Vernon G. Smith is running unopposed in the Democratic party primary. No Republicans are running this spring in the district.

15th House District

State Rep. Hal Slager is running unopposed in the GOP primary. He will face off this fall with Democrat Chris Chyung, who is running unopposed in the Democratic party primary.

16th House District

State Rep. Douglas Gutwein is running unopposed in the GOP primary. Joshua Bolen and Christina L. Zacny are running in the Democratic party primary.

19th House District

State Rep. Julie Olthoff is running unopposed in the GOP primary. Lisa Beck is running unopposed in the Democratic party primary.

20th House District

State Rep. Jim Pressel is running unopposed in the GOP primary. No Democratic is running this spring in the district.
