Office sought: Lake County Commissioner, District 2
Political experience: 20 years, St. John Township Trustee. 15 years, Lake County Commissioner, District 2.
What prompted your decision to run for this office?: The 2nd Commissioner's District is very unique as it covers 95 percent of the unincorporated area of Lake County. You have to be a full-time commissioner, and I have done that for the 15 years as commissioner.
Top three goals:
- Continue our cost-cutting agenda, as this has reduced our county portion of the budget by $152 million annually. This is a positive incentive to attract new business to Lake County.
- Set out goals for future location needs to consolidate county government. This would eliminate repair maintenance, utility cost and manpower. Bus service to two locations would be less expensive and a much-needed addition.
- Continue the master plan for flooding, road maintenance, online contract and daily county business to the public. Constantly seeking ways to reduce our insurance, supplies, vehicle costs, maintenance contracts, etc.
Why should voters choose you?: Compare administrative result records. The commissioner's position calls for immediate action on constituents' problems. It's a full-time position starting at 7:30 a.m. on a daily basis. My experience in addressing the needs of my district has been very positive.
What would you do on your first day in office?: As we have done in the past, we meet with all our department heads and go over our goals, needs and ways to implement new goals for the fiscal year.
What else would you like to tell us?: I have a credible reputation with the two commissioners, cities and towns in addressing all of Lake County's needs. I work cooperatively with other government agencies. Never hired a family member in county government. Married 53 years. Lifelong resident of Lake County. 15 years in county government.
