HIGHLAND | Incumbent Carol Green-Fraley, 66, will return to the Highland School Board along with newcomer Patrick Krull, 41, a 1989 Highland High School graduate.
At stake in Tuesday’s election were two at-large school board seats.
Coming in third was Frank Postulka, 50, while community activist and former Highland School Board member Rick Volbrecht, 64, finished fourth.
Green-Fraley said the school board and the school district must “continue to maintain current progress in both academics and athletics.” This must be done, she said, despite funding cuts of about $2 million in reimbursements by the Indiana Department of Revenue.
“The board has felt strongly that we are not cutting any educational programs,” Green-Fraley said.
As the father of six children, Krull said budget cuts shouldn’t threaten programs that are necessary to produce well-rounded students. That includes programs in the arts, he said.
“It’s about the kids, and I want to make sure it stays about the kids,” Krull said, following his election to the school board. “I’m overwhelmed and thankful for all those who supported me.”
