INDIANAPOLIS | Marion County Clerk Beth White is set to announce Monday she is seeking the Democratic nomination for Indiana secretary of state.

The two-term leader of the largest county election office will declare her bid to become the state's chief elections officer outside the Statehouse suite of her likely opponent, Republican Secretary of State Connie Lawson.

White, a Bloomington native, must be selected by Hoosier Democrats at their summer 2014 convention to challenge Lawson next November.

She is not related to Republican Charlie White, the most recently elected secretary of state, who was removed from office in Feb. 2012 after being convicted of felony voter fraud.
