Joel Phelps
Age: 35
Portage
Republican
Office sought: U.S. House District 1
Political experience: I have never run for office before, and I am very proud of that fact. I do have vast experience, though, solving problems, making tough decisions, and I am comfortable standing alone when it is the right thing to do.
What prompted your decision to run for this office?: Each day the federal government takes in $6 billion and spends $10 billion. Each day there are new regulations and new unconstitutional unelected czars, taking away old freedoms, liberties and opportunity. We must do something before the world markets do
Top three goals:
- Repeal Obamacare and replace with a constitutional free market, free choice-based system that will improve quality and drive down cost, and restore choice through competition.
- We have the highest business taxes in the world. We must lower tax rates on businesses so it is affordable and profitable again for American companies to make American steel and other products here in Northwest Indiana and employ American workers.
- Lower gas prices below $2.50 and lower overall energy prices by completing the Keystone XL Pipeline project; exploring oil sources offshore in the Gulf of Mexico and in ANWR; repeal the burdensome EPA regulations on energy exploration.
Why should voters choose you?: No one is as qualified or more driven to make this area great again. I am raising a family with three young boys in this district. I am a successful process engineer who is expert at creating opportunity and eliminating waste in the private sector.
What would you do on your first day in office?: I would propose and or support legislation to repeal Obamacare in its entirety. I would propose passage of the Mack Penny plan in the House that would change the trajectory of our deficit and secure our status and the world reserve currency.
What else would you like to tell us?: We still have the largest market, the productive workers and the best technologies and universities the world has ever known. Besides our debt, there is nothing structural preventing us from restoring America's greatness except career politicians.
